Diving and Other Activities

The same island geography that makes the BVI a perfect sailing destination, also creates excellent SCUBA diving.
The British Virgin Islands are full of quiet harbors protected by wind swept points.  These points often extend below the water’s surface in the form of fantastic coral reefs teeming with wildlife.

Norman island offers a number of dive sites protected from the open water.  The world famous Indians, Rainbow Canyon and Spyglass wall are among Matt’s favorites.  In the right weather conditions, Painted Wall near Dead Chest Island can’t be beat.  And we have to mention the wreck of the RMS Rhone.  She sank in a hurricane in 1867 and after 140 years of coral growth is an absolutely stunning dive.

Melissa is a PADI certified Dive Instructor, and Matt is a certified PADI Dive Master.  Both have extensive dive experience on the sites of the BVI and they look forward to assisting you with underwater photography so you can identify all the fish you see.

Don’t worry if you don’t own dive gear or don’t feel like lugging it around crowded airports, because Free Ingwe is equipped with  bouyancy control devices, regulators, dive tanks, fins, masks, snorkels and weight belts.  Dive rates are $35 per person per dive.

If you aren’t a certified SCUBA diver, not a problem!  Melissa can introduce you to the underwater world with a Discover Scuba Diving course.  It’s a wonderful experience that will start you on the path to your new hobby.

Sailing

Always wanted to learn how, but never had the chance?  Now’s the time!  Feel free to help as much or a little as you’d like when we sail around the islands.  Whether you help us adjust the sails or take the helm you’re in for a truly exciting experience!

Beaches

If the BVI slogan “Nature’s Little Secrets” doesn’t give it away, then you must see it for yourself.  The BVI boasts some of the most astoundingly beautiful beaches you will ever see.  White Bay, Savannah Bay and Sandy Spit, to name a few, are guaranteed to take your breath away.

Take an afternoon swim at Dead Man’s Bay on Peter Island, or get lost on Anegada’s endless beach while watching the sunset.  All along the journey you’ll truly feel that you are in paradise.

Water Activities

What’s your poison?  Waterskiing or wakeboarding?  Knee boarding or “noodling”?  Snorkeling or kayaking?  We’ve got it all!  No need to bring your equipment as we have everything you need to spend your time in the water the way you like!

Hiking

Want to take a break from the boat?  The islands offer a number of great hikes.  Take the morning to walk up Norman Island, and discover an old pirates’ lookout.  Or find the abandoned house on Peter Island complete with artistic tile mosaics, most of which are still intact.

The Gorda Peak National Park boasts the highest point on Virgin Gorda.  Once you reach 1359 feet, climb the wooden observation tower and take in the stunnig view the British Virgin Islands.

Finally stroll along Anegada’s endless of beach.  Afterward, reward yourself with a cocktail at Cow Wreck Beach Bar, and when you’re ready to return to the boat, simply call for a taxi.

Spa

If your idea of relaxing includes a hot-stone massage or a pedicure, indulge in treatment.  Peter Island Resort boasts a world-class spa.  The islands of Tortola and Virgin Gorda offer spa options as well.  Let us know, and we’ll help you book your treatment of choice.

Nightlife

While evenings on the water tend to be quiet and relaxing, the islands offer nightlife ranging from tranquil to absolutely crazy.

Looking for a place to shake your booty?  The Willy T at Norman Island or Foxy’s on Jost van Dyke can offer you the music and ambiance to do just that.

Here during the full moon?  Trellis Bay and Bomba Shack in Apple Bay offer Full Moon parties complete with food, drinks and live entertainment.  The former offers a family-friendly atmosphere, while the latter, (the original) is a party where anything can happen.

There are a number of options throughout the islands to take in some live music.  And if you’re lucky, you might catch a show by Melissa’s brother.

Shopping

While you won’t find a shopping mall Mecca in the islands, you will find little gems along the way to satisfy your inner shopaholic.  Most islands have at least one to two shops where you can find souvenir t-shirts, local art and handicrafts.

Of course, when you’re ready to relax, you can lounge with a book on the bow trampolines, float on a noodle with a tropical drink, or doze in a hammock on one of the many white sand beaches.  Since Free Ingwe is your personal floating resort, you choose what makes your ideal BVI yacht charter.
